Overview

NTM’s wire and sinker EDM operation in Newport, PA runs two Fanuc wire EDMs and one Eltee Pulsitron sinker EDM. Our EDM department produces complex geometries and tight-tolerance components in hardened materials, work that conventional machining cannot reach.

As a result, every decision from programming to final inspection stays with the same team from start to finish.

How It Works

How wire and sinker EDM works at NTM

01

Drawing Review

We review your drawings, or build one with you in SolidWorks if you're starting from scratch, so every EDM program is built around your part.

02

Programming

We program your job in Mastercam or Esprit. The person programming your job is the same person running the machine.

03

Setup

We select the right machine. Wire EDM runs on our two Fanuc units; sinker EDM runs on the Eltee Pulsitron TRM-21 for geometry wire can't reach.

04

Machining

Your part runs with no handoffs between departments. The programmer who built your program stays with the job from setup to finished part.

05

Inspection

Every EDM order ships with documented inspection using Geo Met 101 and CMM Manager. Nothing leaves NTM without a record.

Can one shop handle EDM from prototype to production?

Yes, and at NTM, both run on the same floor with the same team. There's no gap between the programmer who built your prototype and the machinist running production. If a drawing needs to change between the two, we make that adjustment before a single production part runs.

How do I know my EDM parts will meet spec?

Every wire and sinker EDM order at NTM ships against an ISO 9001:2015 certified inspection process valid through 2029. Smaller runs receive full inspection across every piece. Larger production orders follow a documented chart that scales with volume. Nothing ships without a record.

Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions

Wire EDM uses a thin wire electrode to cut through a workpiece along a programmed path. Sinker EDM uses a shaped electrode to erode material into a workpiece, well suited for blind cavities and detailed geometry that wire cannot reach. NTM runs both processes from one facility.
Two Fanuc wire EDMs, the 1iE-12 and the C400iA-10, and one Eltee Pulsitron sinker EDM, the TRM-21. All programming runs in Mastercam and Esprit, and every order ships with documented inspection.
Yes. Prototype and production both run on the same floor with the same team. If you have a part that's never been made before, we build the drawing in SolidWorks with you, work through programming, and move into production when you're ready.
