About Kyle Weller

Kyle Weller is operations manager at Newport Tool & Machine and the third generation of the Weller family in the business. He joined out of high school in 2018, worked through the shop floor, and now handles customer communication, quote follow-up, and daily operations at the Newport, Pennsylvania shop.

Kyle Weller is the third generation of his family at NTM. He grew up next door to the shop and now lives on the neighboring family property. His grandfather Ron founded the company in 1972. His father Eric came on in 1989. Kyle followed the same path, out of high school and onto the floor in 2018. He worked his way through the shop floor before moving into operations. Today he handles customer communication, quote follow-up, and new business, along with day-to-day work across the building. The people who answer the phone at NTM are the people who own it.

What Kyle Weller Handles at NTM

Kyle works the customer side of the business alongside his father.

  • Quote follow-up. He tracks open quotes and gets back to buyers rather than waiting for them to chase NTM.
  • New customer relationships. First-time buyers qualifying NTM as a supplier usually start with Kyle.
  • Project support. He stays with existing customers through a job, from release to shipment.
  • Business development. He works on which markets and which part types fit what the shop is built to do.
  • Daily operations. He supports scheduling and flow across all seven processes on one floor.
  • Estimating. He works on quoting alongside Eric, learning the cost side of each process.
  • Hiring. Machinists interested in a job at NTM reach Kyle or Eric directly.
  • Marketing and outreach. He handles how NTM presents its capabilities to buyers evaluating new suppliers.

How Kyle Came Up in the Business

Growing up next to a machine shop is a specific kind of education. Kyle watched the work before he did any of it, so the craftsmanship his grandfather built the company on was not something he had to be taught later. He took the same route his father did, out of high school and onto the floor. Learning the processes first is why he can talk about a part rather than just take a message about one. He is still learning on purpose. The technical side comes from working next to machinists with 25 to 40 years each, and the business side from estimating, marketing, and customer work alongside Eric.

Working With Kyle

Kyle handles quote follow-up and new customer relationships, so a first-time buyer is usually talking to him. He works alongside Eric on estimating, and either of them can answer process questions directly. No account manager sits between the buyer and the floor, and nobody has to leave a message with a department to get an answer about their own part.

What Kyle Works On

Kyle spends his attention on the fit between a customer’s part and what NTM’s floor can do. That means run size and process choice as much as geometry, including when a small-diameter part belongs on Swiss screw machining rather than a lathe. He also works on the supplier-qualification side, where buyers want certification, documented inspection, and capacity answered before price ever comes up.

What Kyle Believes About Customers

The goal is not the order. Kyle’s view is that NTM earns a place as a supplier by being honest about what a job will take, responsive when a buyer has a question, and dependable across years rather than across one purchase order. Some NTM customer relationships are older than he is. Keeping those, while adding new ones, is the work.

The Third Generation

Three generations have shaped what NTM is known for. Ron set the standard in 1972, Eric carried it through five decades of changing work, and Kyle is the one taking it forward. His focus is growing the customer base and adding capability while holding what has not changed: same family, same address, same approach to how a part gets quoted, machined, inspected, and shipped. The equipment keeps evolving. The way customers get treated does not. That means continuing to invest in new technology, in people worth keeping for a career, and in relationships built to outlast any single order. Kyle is proud to be the one carrying it forward.

Outside the Shop

Kyle spends summers on Raystown Lake and much of the rest of the year on the water chasing musky and smallmouth. When he is not fishing, he is in a tree stand hunting whitetail. Patience, preparation, and persistence carry over.
