Newport Tool & Machine, known as NTM, Inc. is a machine shop located in Newport, PA. NTM is a 50,000 square foot automated facility with over 40 machinists and 32 CNC production machines. NTM works to ensure the highest level of quality control and continues to be one of the largest employers of skilled machinists and journeymen toolmakers in Perry County, PA.
History
NTM headquarters are situated on what used to be a 30-acre working horse farm. Ron Weller’s passion was horses. At one time, he owned and/or boarded 98 horses. He gave lessons, showed horses, boarded horses and owned race horses. Prior to horses, Ron put himself through the Tool and Die program at the Williamsport Technical Institute and worked for Aircraft Marine Products (AMP) now known as TE Connectivity for 19 years until the mid-70’s. Eric Weller, son and current President of NTM can remember farming the hay on those 300-acres every summer as young kid through high school.
Eric joined his dad at NTM full-time in 1989 after high school graduation. Ironically, 29 years to the day on the anniversary of his father’s passing, Eric’s son Kyle joined the family business also upon his high school graduation to follow in his father and grandfather’s footsteps.
Family legacy and tradition remain at the forefront of this business as well as leading edge technology. Ron believed in purchasing the most cutting-edge equipment, staying ahead of industry standards and materials in order to provide his clients with exceptional quality.Ron Weller started NTM as a one-man, one-room shop in the basement of his home with three manual machines.
NTM moves out of Ron’s basement and the back third of the horse barn becomes the original “shop”.
Ron built the first NTM building in his backyard on a piece of his horse farm land.
Newport Tool & Machine becomes incorporated and begins doing business as NTM, Inc.
NTM gets a major opportunity to produce components used a surgical eye procedure (Radial Keratotomy), the precursor to what later becomes LASIK.
NTM undergoes its second expansion and doubles in size going from 10,000 to 20,000 square feet of shop space to accommodate its massive growth.
Due to company and client growth, Ron & Eric decided it was in NTM’s best interest to walk away from the horse farm and focus all their energy on NTM.
NTM produces components used in the Patriot Missile during the Gulf War.
Ron was awarded with the prestigious honor of Entrepreneur of The Year by by TE Connectivity (formerly known as AMP Incorporated)
For the next 10 years, NTM undergoes significant growth and expansion of its people, machinery and capabilities
Eric Weller takes over as the General Manager of NTM.
Started to manufacture high-end fishing reel components used by the professional angler and fishing industry.
NTM undergoes yet a third major renovation to meet the needs of the ever-growing business by adding on an additional 20,000 square feet of facility space.
NTM, Inc. achieves its ISO 9001:2015 Registration for the manufacture of custom machined components and its 07 Federal Firearms License for the purpose of manufacturing firearms.
NTM, Inc. mourns the passing of its founder, Ron Weller. Eric Weller takes over as President.
NTM, Inc. begins to produce components and sophisticated stage parts for the live music and entertainment industry serving artists such as Justin Timberlake & Taylor Swift.
